THE SUMMER I TURNED NERDY: 5 THINGS YOU SHOULDN'T MISS

Photo from Sunstar Cebu

I don't know about you but I think the heavens have conspired to bless with hot-as-hot-fudge book treats this summer. If you're not going anywhere, might as well get lost in a book. Are you ready? Here are 5 things Cebuano bibliophiles shouldn't miss this May.

1. Hop onboard MV Logos Hope!

A floating library full of affordable books. You'd be crazy not to go! MV Logos Hope is back in our shores to offer Cebuanos good reads and a cultural experience one can't forget. I can still remember when my family and I went aboard MV Doulos, Logos' predecessor years ago. Their crew was a lovely mix of people from different countries and I couldn't expect less from Logos as they have around 400 crew members from all over the world.
Aside from getting a handful of books for very cheap prices, you can also treat yourself and your family to some culture. They even have an international cafe on the ship. If that's not awesome then I don't know what it is.

MV Logos is docked at the back of Malacanang sa Sugbu. Entrance fee is 20php. Kids below 13 and senior citizens may come in for FREE. Open on weekdays 10am-9:30 pm and weekends 1:30 pm- 9:30 pm. Hurry, they're only staying til the 29th!

2. Attack Fully Booked for their Renovation Sale!

I've always thought that 50% off sales only existed in my wildest dreams. But here we have Fully Booked making said dreams come true with their summer renovation sale! Was I the only one having a mini heart attack?

Follow the pink signs and they will lead you to your own personal bliss. From YA to cookbooks to Moleskine planners, most of the selected items are cut by half the price. Did Christmas come early or what?

Here's my bok haul so far. I'm gonna come back and see if I can find the rest of my Stiefvater babies (Ballad? The Raven Boys? Are you there somewhere, loves?) on their shelves.

Hurry though, the sale only lasts til 24th May.

Fully Booked is located at the 2nd level of The Terraces, Ayala Center Cebu.

3. Join OTSP Cebu!

Remember my darling sister and her wonderful friends at On The Same Page Cebu? Sister swears by her allowance that they are the community to belong to if you love boks to a fault. OTSP has a Facebook group you can join to know the latest book signings, get freebies and meet great kids in general. I have been forbidden to join because I am too old. Ha! Just kidding. Check this group out and you might just find your bookloving broTPs. :)

4. Patiently wait for summer releases

And by summer releases I really mean Jenny Han's PS I Still Love You. Ah, Jenny, why're you making me wait for this sequel? What have I done to deserve this heartless punishment? I adored To All The Boys I've Loved Before. Why are you making me wait so long?

Jenny Han's novels are light but full of heart and kilig moments. Yeah, no one's too old for a little YA. Peter is just the most adorable book boyfriend I've encountered so far and I can't wait to have my hands on this.

Jenny Han's books are available at National Bookstore and Fully Booked.

5. Write your own summer adventure

It's never too late to create your own summer lovestory/adventure/mystery/drama. Write an anecdote about the cute guy sitting beside you on the jeep ride home. Or how clear the waters were in Moalboal. Write a letter to your future OTP. Or the possibility of finding a life-changing adventure by booking a oneway ticket to somewhere. The list is endless! Grab a piece of pen and paper and write down your ideas. Who knows? You might even find them useful if and when you join NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) come November. There's no such thing as being too early.

Whew. Summer in the city never looked this good. With so many things to do and books to read, I doubt any of us would have a dull summer. What will you do first? Or have you already started your nerdy exploits? Tell me all about it in the comments below. :)

Til next time!
